So thrilled!

(I just thought I would throw in this picture of my son a few years ago after he got into the art supplies.  Doesn't every parent have pictures like this?  Good times.)

I just have to take a minute to say that I am thrilled with the response I have been getting from my blog.  As you probably know my spring class is my first online art class.  I originally thought I would just be sharing these art ideas with my friends and I never would have guessed that so many other people would become interested in following along.  I have received emails from people in New Zealand, and Switzerland and Canada and all over the country that are looking forward to following along with me and my son in less than 3 weeks.  Many people are organizing groups to follow along and throwing an art exhibition night together.  When I think about all this is just makes my eyes water because I believe so strongly in the importance of art for children.  I am just thrilled to know that there are so many wonderful parents out there that desire for their children to have great opportunities for learning and growth.  I am grateful to see that the world is full of parents that are willing to drop what they are doing and spend one-on-one time teaching their children even if it means making a big mess with art products.  Thank you to everyone that has emailed me and has encouraged me in my efforts, it has meant a lot to me.  In the next couple days I will be posting more info about the class including a basic outline and more about what I am trying to teach.  The class is an ART class where elements and fundamentals and materials will be introduced in a simple and fun ways for the age group I am focusing on......  I will explain more about what that means in the next few days.  If this is your first time on my blog I hope you will read more here and follow along with us starting on March 14th!

One thing that I wanted to mention briefly as well is that I have had many people request that I document the class in a pdf format that parents can print.  That is not something I would have thought of, however I love that idea.  I am excited to say that I am beginning to work on the pdf and I am hoping to have as much of it done as possible by the first class.  Because of the amount of time that it takes to put that together I am going to be selling the pdf to those that are interested.  The online class is still completely free, but for those that want a hard copy of the class there will be the option of paying for the pdf.  I will also be throwing in some extra projects that I love but I just could not fit into the class.  I have far too many project ideas for this class and my friends keep reminding me that I need to focus on my favorites and keep it simple as to not overwhelm the parents or the kids.  So I thought I could throw in a few of those ideas on the pdf that I would just love to share.  I am excited about the possibility of making a little profit from my efforts - however I do not want anyone to feel obligated to buy the pdf.    It is just an option that I am providing in response to the request.  I am excited about it.

  1. The pdf is a great idea! I'm very excited to participate in the class with my little ones, but we'll be moving sometime in the next few weeks, so now I can get the pdf and do it all once we get settled! So exciting!

  2. I'm so excited for the class to begin. I'll be following along with my 2.5 year old who LOVES all things art-related. I shared one of your posts on my facebook wall by copying and pasting it, and some of my friends will be joining too. I was wondering if you have a facebook page? If so, do you post all your blog posts to it automatically (I do - it's really simple!)? If you did that, I'd be happy to share the ones on the class on my facebook page too!

Almost 2 weeks til we start!! I need to see what basics I should start with. Do you have suggestions or should I take it as it comes with each project?

  7. Hey Heidi-

I love you! I am so excited that you are following along! Thanks for sharing my blog with Pix. I will be posting the supplies for the class at the beginning of March and the list will include a lot of basic supplies that every child should have at home. I am trying to make it affordable - it is amazing what you can do with simple art supplies. But there will be some materials that most people probably do not have but are easy to find or order online. I hope all is well for you!

  12. Jessica-

Thank you for your question about where I do art projects with my kids and my students. Well I have a big dream to have an art studio in my next house but for now I have a small house with no storage space. However I did find an awesome kitchen table that is HUGE at a furniture clearance store a few years ago. It can open up to fit 14 people around it and I love it! So we do art right in our kitchen which is perfect because I have my kitchen counter right there for drying projects and a sink for quick rinsing of paint brushes. It works! For the online class I have set up a mini studio in my living room which is kinda fun. My kids feel so important having their pictures taken in our little studio. It just looks nicer for the pictures to have a solid color wall in the background instead of toys and stuff. I covered my white carpet with a big blanket and brought our white art table downstairs from our playroom. Thanks for your question!
