Create with Me Magazine

My son Liam has anxiously awaited for the first edition of the "Create with Me" magazine to be published.  The editor contacted me after seeing my article on Design Mom which showed how to make 3 abstract paintings with children.  She asked me to submit the "pressed shapes" art project she saw on Design Mom for publication in her magazine.  Liam and I were thrilled at the thought of having a project published so we happily wrote the article.  Now 5 months have gone by and we headed to Barnes and Noble this evening to pick up our own copy of the freshly published magazine.  It was so fun to be in Barnes and Noble and read an article all about my son's artwork.  Liam could hardly contain himself!  After I put my kids to bed I spent a couple hours reading the magazine, which is more like a book.... It has 144 pages of purely inspiring art ideas and stories about creating art with children, and it has very few advertisments.  Each page is so well written and beautifully displayed, I think the magazine is a work of art in itself.  It was like therapy reading the words of mothers like me out there that feel it is important to allow opportunities for creative expression at home.  Sometimes I feel alone in my efforts and I found it very encouraging.  I really recommend purchasing your own copy.  Create with Me will only be published semi-annually so there will not be another addition until the Winter, maybe that is why it is full of so many ideas.  I loved every single page.  It has been fun to be apart of it.

Here is a picture of Liam in the magazine aisle at Barnes and Noble.

  1. That is so stinking exciting! I just love that you have followed your passion - and look at all the good that has happened. My kids are begging me to do art class with them everyday and consider art to be one of their major talents. I definitely don't always have the energy for it- so I wish we lived close and my kids could take classes from you!
    Anyway, congrats on being published!

  3. I came over because I'm going through the magazine myself and the project by you and Liam is, I think, my favorite, because of your focus on open-ended, process-oriented art. I feel so strongly that kids should have the freedom to create in that way. We haven't tried building up a texture before painting yet so I'm excited to share that with my kids as soon as I get my hands on some molding paste!

  5. I am getting my copy this weekend! I wanted to share that I have started your program with my 5 1/2 year old and she is loving it! Since it is summer and we have had beautiful weather we have been doing all of our painting outside. This allows me to enjoy more as well since I don't have to worry about paint on the furniture;)

  6. Fabulous! I haven't read it yet, but will definitely purchase one. Me and four other moms have been doing art classes based on Pineapple Paintbrush this summer and we are having a blast! We only have two weeks left and we don't want it to end. I can not thank you enough for sharing your ideas!
